Joe Cerisano's Silver Condor Rarities Vol. 1

It's been 21 years since I left my band, R-band, in New Jersey, got into my Volkswagen and drove across the country to meet Earl Slick. My good friend Tommy Morrongello who was playing guitar for Ian Hunter gave Slick my name and number. Packed into the back of my VW was my Fender Precision bass guitar, a couple pairs of jeans, a Revox A-77 tape deck and a stack of 7 inch reel to reel tapes. On those tapes were two years worth of songs I'd been writing and performing 6 nights a week in the tough New Jersey rock club circuit. Most of the groups on the circuit were playing all cover songs but we started to sneak in our own stuff and gradually we were playing most of the songs you're hearing here.

We really tried to get the attention of the record companies even to the point of going into New Your City every Monday night to play for free At the Great Gildersleeves in the Bowery. We were rockin' but the record companies were no where to be found. Just another Jersey club band. Wrong. Back to our story... I arrived in LA on Dec.14 th 1979. I'll never forget driving into Hollywood that Friday night. It was like an alien landscape to me. I was supposed to meet Slick the next day in Van Nuys but had to drive back out of town to find an affordable motel room. To make a long story a little shorter, I met Slick and we needed to put a band together. He didn't know that I had all these songs in my car. But one by one I started to bring them out. Within a couple of weeks we had all the material we needed. It wasn't easy finding places to rehearse, then find a manager, then getting the record companies to listen. After about three months we finally found our manager, Trudy Green (Rolling Stones. Aerosmith). She was great and I'll never forget how hard she worked to make it happen for us. She loved the material and helped us a lot. She took our demo around and got everybody in town excited. The big things that were expected to happen to Silver Condor never materialized for many reasons. None of those reasons are important now. All that's important now is that you get to hear this music. The tracks that you hear on the CD are the actual demos that Trudy brought around to the record companies that got us the deal. These are the songs.

Reviews

“A band that rocks as hard as this one doesn't roll around too often. It's been over 20 years since S.C. left Columbia Records, a music industry mistake that ranks right up there with Decca's decision not to sign The Beatles! It's really hard NOT to mention the incredible voice of Joe Cerisano when singing the praises of this not-to-be- forgotten band. Earl Slick knocks out lick after lick on this talent showcase as well. Silver Condor Rarities is a must have for any rock enthusiast. Get yours and you'll hear why!.”- Larry Shannon

“This CD is further proof of the pure talent and raw energy this band put out in it's prematurely short-lived lifespan.”- Mark Bennett
